Genesis 1:27
“God created man in his own image. In God’s image he created him; male and female he created them.”
This verse belongs to the Bible’s opening creation account, addressed to ancient Israel. Many scholars place its final shaping in the sixth or fifth century BCE, during or after the Babylonian exile; its individual author is unknown. Here, being made in God’s image belongs to humanity—not just rulers, people with prestigious work, or people who produce more.
