Judges 3:9
“When the children of Israel cried to Yahweh, Yahweh raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who saved them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.”
The book of Judges tells the story of the Israelites after settling in the land of Canaan, often falling into cycles of disobedience, oppression by surrounding peoples, and then crying out to Yahweh for help. This verse describes one such instance, with Othniel being the first deliverer (judge) appointed.
What does it mean for us to acknowledge our need for help, rather than relying solely on our own efforts?
