thinking bible.

You asked

how does this law relate to other old testament laws about lending, like in exodus or leviticus?

The passage, plainly, with room to sit with it.

Deuteronomy 23:19-20

You shall not lend on interest to your brother: interest of money, interest of food, interest of anything that is lent on interest. To a foreigner you may lend on interest; but to your brother you shall not lend on interest, that Yahweh your God may bless you in all that you put your hand to, in the land where you go in to possess it.

This passage is part of a larger collection of laws given to the Israelites through Moses as they prepared to enter the Promised Land. It sets out ethical guidelines for their community life, distinguishing between their interactions with fellow Israelites and with those outside their covenant.

What does it mean to build a society where basic needs are met for everyone, even when that means limiting certain economic practices?
