Deuteronomy 6:4-9
“Hear, O Israel: Yahweh is our God; Yahweh is one. You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house, and on your gates.”
This passage is part of Moses' farewell speeches to the Israelites as they prepare to enter the promised land. It's a foundational declaration of their unique relationship with God, emphasizing a total devotion that should permeate every aspect of their daily lives, not just formal religious acts.
